My "50 for 50"

I have a calendar of local artists on my wall at work, I get to see a different painting every month. ( I am the featured artist for Nov of 2007)
I watch Kids CBC every morning with my son, Owen. All shows are produced in Canada. (the secret is I enjoy it)
I listened to some fiddle, and other local Nova Scotian artists', tunes while loading them on my mother's iPod.
Does drawing out clues during a game of CSI count (OK maybe not)
My wife and I sat down with our 19 month old to do finger painting for upcoming birthday presents.
On Sunday my wife, son and I went to the library for Literacy day. There was reading, theatre, and art crafts. That pretty much sums up all the arts. (Has anyone figured out that this is quickly becoming Owen's 50 for 50)
I sat down with my friend Todd to go over the curriculum for the fine arts course he is creating for the college he owns and runs. (This would be the first course of it's kind on the Island)
While out at my CBU Art Gallery Advisory Board meeting I took a look at the present exhibit. it consists of Staff, Faculty, Students and Alumni. (This is the first year the entire gallery space is dedicated to the show)
I attended an art show opening for Robert McNeil, Onni Nordman, and Cathine Moir at CBU Gallery II
I attended a friend's Dinner Theatre performance "All Soul's Day" (helped him with makeup to age a few performers)
I attended the Liz Boardmoar, One Act Play Festival (@ CBU) last night and say two plays
I attended a gallery show opening for a fellow artist, Brian Geary. His show "Subdivisions" will be at CBU for the next two weeks
While in Amherst for Easter I visited the studio of Deanne Fitzpatrick, a local rug hooker who does all original designs. (they were quite interesting and filled with great colours)
I attended a friend's Dinner Theatre performance "All Soul's Day" (yes again, I helped him with makeup)
Took Owen to see Linar Jim and the CBC Kids in concert.
I painted a piece to be donated to the Mental Health silent auction called "With Age Comes Strength" (The Auction is being held on June 1st)

At the end of February I will be instructing a two day Photoshop - Digital imaging and Manipulation. This workshop will provide training on manipulating images, computer storage and archiving, colour management, and output requirements for print or for the web.

I had a great weekend in lunenburg. I sold 17 out of 18 pieces created over the two days and I've been invited to sell in one of the lunenburg shops (Jenny Jib) by the owner who baught one of my inks. I have also been invited to give an inking workshop in Nov. i will fill everyone in on the details when we work them out.

Once again the Celtic Colours visual art series will be taking place this fall. This year I have the pleasure of giving a workshop at the Gaelic College, St Anns on Oct. 14 entitled "Design from Hand to Eye"

just wanted to let everyone know I won 1st place at the Point Michaud Sand Sculpture contest. Not many showed up because of the overcast skys but fun was had by all who came.

On Sunday, July 23 I will be taking in some fun in the sun and sand. Point Michaud beach is hosting their annual Sand Castle and Sculpture Contest and I am entering for the second year. Last year I claimed second prize, so let's see how I do this year. So if you are looking for something to do come on down.

Every summer (August 5 and 6, 2006), the Lunenburg Art Gallery hosts a wet paint sale called "Paint Sea on Site". As many as 60 artists converge on Lunenburg for a two day painting extravaganza. This year I plan on making a trip of it, It should be a great weekend of painting, socializing and there is an auction also. (did I mention half the sales go back to the artists)

City printers is putting together a calendar of local artists and yes I am part of it. They will be giving away (yes, giving away) the calendar at their open house May 25 of this year.

Thaught you may want to know I have submitted a piece to the mental health Dinner and Auction again this year. The auction takes place May 26. Tickets can be purchased by calling 567-7735. It should be a great night for a great cause.

I have just submitted a piece (fish)to the ape Breton Regional Library Dinner theatre & art auction. It will be held May 12. It should be a great night and a lot of fun (all donating artists painted cut out fish. You can view the fish to date at the CBRL website & tickets can be purchased by calling 562-3279.

Off Island Show

OK it is not far off island but Antigonish will do for now. Sydney's "Life Drawing Classes" is having a showing of nudes at the St. FX Art Gallery. It will consist of works produced during the life drawing classes held each week.

All attendees are welcome to put pieces in.

IODE show, I'll be there

The pieces I will have in are some of my small scale inks. These inks are becoming quite popular and are starting to draw interest at local auctions.

I attended the Cape Breton Artists Association meeting today. They were having trouble getting new members but there were several new people there. I think they may be on an upswing.

The meetings are the third Sunday of every month 2:00pm at the CBU Staff Lounge.

The pieces I have put in are some of my better inks I have done over the last year. These inks are becoming quite popular. I plan on trying to get a show dedicated primarily to my inks in Gallery I (CBU) or mayby off island.

Stone Carving

I went to Inverness on Friday for the stone carving Symposium. It was quite interesting, seven carvers from across Canada coming to Cape Breton to carve. They all said they loved it here...

I got here in the dark, when the sun came up I realized how beautiful it was. There is no reason to leave.

The thing that they all found difficult was the sheer hardness of the stone here and the fact that there tend to be faults in it which can make it difficult to carve.
I did get a chance to try my hand at it. And it (my hand) is still numb from the pneumatic chisels.

Anyway, they hope to make this an anual event and display the peices throughout the year at sponsor locations. The sculptures will however be housed at the Inverness Centre for a month or so before they travel to their new homes.

I would like to welcome you to my space. I will try to post regularly and let everyone know what I have been upto in the art community.

This week I will be travelling to Cheticamp and hope to take a day and visit Inverness for the Atlantic Stone Carving Symposium(it runs until Sept.10). I will fill you in and try to get some photos.
